Parent and Guardian Updates
Safety Update: Number of Students On Campus Reduced
(Read the full November 24 parent letter in the resource list at the bottom of the page).
In the interest of keeping our students and staff safe, we have decided to decrease the number of students on campus for in-person instruction while the rate of COVID-19 continues to rise in the county. We understand how difficult this is for parents and are keeping your needs in mind as we consider changes.
Beginning November 30:
- If your family has traveled or gathered with people outside of your household, students will need to remain off campus for two weeks from the last day of gathering or returning home. All learning will be remote for these students.
- If they have not traveled or been part of a gathering, students in grades 6 through 12 will remain off campus for one week for remote instruction.
- If they have not traveled or been part of a gathering, students in grades K-5 will have in-person instruction but only four students will be in the classroom with the teacher at a time. The remainder will work with a para educator outside of the classroom. Each student will have in-person instruction with the teacher throughout the week.
- Students with any symptoms that could be related to COVID-19 must stay home. You can find a full list of symptoms on our website.
Again, we encourage you to reconsider travel or large family gatherings during the Thanksgiving break. However, if you are planning such a gathering or to travel, please notify us by calling the school or emailing support@lyleschools.org.
For students learning from home, meals will be available for pick up as before, at 8 a.m. and at 3 p.m. Parents, please email support@lyleschools.org to let us know if you need meals provided and what day you would like to pick them up.
Safety Update: New Requirements for Students Displaying Symptoms
(Find the full November 20, 2020 letter in the resource list at the bottom of the page)
We take safety measures very seriously and ask that you do the same. We have only a small margin of flexibility if our teachers and other staff get sick. A few absences could dramatically impact our school district’s ability to stay open. It’s unlikely that any subs we can find would have the training necessary to step in and teach our TEAMS classes, so if more than one or two teachers get sick, we will have a very hard time continuing any instruction.
Beginning Monday, November 23, we are implementing more strenuous requirements when students display symptoms that may be related to COVID-19.
We no longer will allow a student with a class “B” symptom* to attend school. In simple terms, if your child is sick or not feeling well, please keep them home. This is for the safety of everyone and to keep our school open.
If a student’s class “B” symptom* lasts longer than 24 hours, then:
- The student must go for PCR COVID testing and have a negative result, or;
- Get an alternative diagnosis, or;
- Isolate for at least 10 days after symptoms started. If a fever or other symptoms are present, the student cannot return until 24 hours after the fever resolves and symptoms improve. This is in addition to the initial 10 day quarantine.
- In addition, the student’s siblings cannot come to school unless testing is done with a negative PCR result; or receives an alternative diagnosis; or isolates for 10 days minimum as outlined above.
If a student has two or more class “B” symptoms or any class “A” symptoms**, the student and their siblings must stay home until:
- The student has tested negative for COVID-19 with a PCR test;
- Received an alternative diagnosis;
- Or isolated for at least ten days after symptoms started. If a fever or other symptoms are present, the student cannot return until 24 hours after the fever resolves and symptoms improve. This is in addition to the initial 10 day quarantine.
- If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. I encourage you to enjoy your family time during next week’s holiday, and to do your part to keep all of us safe.
*Class “B” symptoms include: fatigue, headache, muscle/body aches, sore throat, congestion/runny nose, nausea/vomiting, and diarrhea
**Class “A” symptoms are: fever, chills, cough, loss of taste/smell, or shortness of breath
Some Things to Know:
- If you want to continue or return to all on-line learning, we understand and will accommodate your wishes through the remainder of the school year.
- Meals will continue to be "grab and go," and will be provided for at-home learning days, too, if you wish to receive them. They should be picked up on Tuesdays at 8 a.m. or 3 p.m. at the kitchen entrance unless other arrangements have been made.
- The school and transportation department will continue to follow all current safety practices. Bus pick-up times will change as we increase the numbers of students coming to school – please continue to watch our website and Facebook page, too.
Like you, we want to get our students back into the classroom as soon as we can, but also do it safely and in a way that minimizes risks to our students, staff and families.
To help us keep our students learning in school as much as possible, please continue to wear your mask in public, keep up that social distancing, and wash your hands!
Current physical distancing requirements make it impossible to have all students on campus five days a week.
The advantage of being a small school district is that we can move quickly from one model to another.
A NOTE ABOUT ATHLETICS: At this time, all athletic competition and practices are canceled. The earliest athletic events are now scheduled for late December, 2020. When details are announced, you will find them here.
